Hoi An Old Town at Night: Best Times, Drop-Off Points, and Transport Tips

Hoi An Ancient Town is at its best from late afternoon into the evening, when the lanterns come on along the old streets and the Hoai River. The centre restricts motor traffic during many hours, so a clear drop-off and pickup plan makes the evening far more relaxed.

What time should you arrive?

Arrive around 16:30–17:00 to walk while it is still light, pick a restaurant before the rush, and watch the lanterns come on. After 18:30 the crowds build noticeably. Full-moon nights are more festive, but also busier.

Where should a private car drop you off?

Tell your driver the name of the hotel, restaurant, or Ancient Town gate you are heading for. Cars normally have to stop at the edge of the pedestrian zone; from there it is a few minutes' walk into the centre. Don't ask the driver to push into streets that are closed to traffic, especially in the evening.

A simple evening itinerary
