My Son is a complex of ancient Cham temples about 50 km southwest of Hoi An. A UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1999, it is one of the most important cultural sights in central Vietnam.
Why a private car beats a coach tour
Coach tours typically leave Hoi An at 07:00, spend 30 minutes driving, 90 minutes at a packed My Son, then add 3–4 shopping stops. With a private car you set the pace and the stops.
Suggested itinerary
- 07:30 — Hotel pickup in Hoi An
- 08:30 — Arrive at My Son ahead of the coaches, while it is quiet
- 08:30–11:00 — Visit with a guide (or on your own)
- 11:00 — Stop for banh xeo at a local spot on the way back
- 12:30 — Back in Hoi An
Local tips
- Hat and sunscreen — there is very little shade at My Son
- Flat shoes for the brick paths
- Buy the combined shuttle + guide ticket at the gate (300,000 VND per person)
- Bring water — there are few refreshment stands
Transport
Flat-rate private transfer from Hoi An to My Son (including 2 hours of waiting at the site):
- Sedan: 700,000 VND (~$29)
- SUV: 850,000 VND (~$35)
- Van: 1,200,000 VND (~$50)
